One of the most practical questions about anti-wrinkle treatment is: how long will it last? The answer depends on the product used, the treatment area, your individual metabolism, and your lifestyle. Here's what you need to know.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) typically lasts 3-4 months for most clients. You'll notice initial softening within 2-3 days, with full results at 7-14 days. Results gradually wear off as the body metabolises the product, at which point muscle movement and lines return slowly.
Relfydess (relabotulinumtoxinA) typically lasts up to 4.5-5 months — noticeably longer than Dysport. Onset is also faster, with visible softening within 24-48 hours. This longer duration means fewer appointments per year, which can offset the higher per-unit cost.
High-movement areas (like the frown) may metabolise product faster than low-movement areas. Some clients find crow's feet last longer than forehead lines.
Just as people metabolise medications differently, individual metabolism affects how long anti-wrinkle results last. Faster metabolisms may process the product more quickly.
Higher doses tend to last longer. However, I always balance dosage with the desired natural result — more isn't always better.
Clients who maintain regular treatment schedules often find results last longer over time. The muscles become conditioned to reduced activity, meaning less product is needed at each session.
Intense exercise, sun exposure, and stress may slightly reduce duration. There's some evidence that zinc deficiency can shorten results, though this isn't conclusively proven.
With Dysport, most clients have 3-4 treatments per year. With Relfydess, 2-3 treatments per year may suffice. Over a year, the total cost may be comparable despite Relfydess's higher per-unit price. Read our Relfydess vs Dysport comparison for a detailed breakdown.
You'll notice gradual return of muscle movement and expression lines. This happens slowly — you won't wake up one day with full lines back. Most clients book their next treatment when they notice about 50% movement returning.
